Approximately 8.9 million working days are lost every year due to musculoskeletal disorders. In 2019/20 the average time off per person was 18 days. Back injuries account for approximately 20% of all injuries and illnesses in the workplace. By following the basic principles outlined, the activity will help you to minimise the risks of manual handling in your operation.

Developed for retail operators, this course aims to help learners understand manual handling operations and the injuries that can be caused through incorrect manual handling operations.

It is recommended that all team members in a retail setting undertake manual handling training as many retail operations include manual handling operations.

  • Understand your responsibilities under the Manual Handling Operations Regulations.
  • Identify manual handling risks.
  • Recognise the importance of correct lifting procedure.

Duration: 45 minutes 

Assessment: There are quiz pages in the activity. The activity concludes with an end assessment consisting of 10 questions. The pass percentage for this is 80%. Learners will receive a certificate upon successful completion of the end assessment.
