FAQs

What is fuel safety training?

Our fuel safety training aims to provide forecourt operators with an understanding of the high-risk implications of selling fuel, including how and when to use the Tannoy, how to deal with the four spillage scenarios, and how to take a vigilant approach to drive offs.

What are the safety measures when using fuel?

Petroleum vapours are flammable, heavier than air, and can travel long distances to an ignition source. These safety measures should be adhered to at all times around fuel:

  • Always check before authorising the pump
  • Ensure you have good visibility of the pump and the person using it
  • Check to see if the customer is on the phone, smoking, or underage
  • If you are dealing with a major spillage or another emergency, you must switch off the pumps
  • Never forget fuel, particularly petrol, is very dangerous and must be handled with caution
  • Check that their engine is switched off
  • Never siphon fuel by the mouth
  • Don’t smoke or allow sources of ignition near fuel
  • Avoid prolonged skin contact with fuel
  • Avoid breathing in vapours or mists

Who is a competent person for fuel deliveries?
