This activity aims to introduce Managers to the Employment (Allocation of Tips) Act 2023, to increase your understanding of what the legislation covers, your responsibilities to your team regarding tips, and what it means moving forward.
The Employment (Allocation of Tips) Act 2023 passed into law in May 2023 and is set to take effect on 1st July 2024. It represents a significant milestone in reinforcing the rights of hospitality teams to retain their tips. Historically, varying regulations existed, but this new Act aims to provide clearer and more robust protection for team members, ensuring fair treatment and allocation of tips.
A draft Code of Practice to accompany the Act is still currently in development; as and when more information is released, the course will be updated.
