What is an APLH?
How do you get a personal licence?
Complete our online course and take our 40-question multiple-choice exam. Once you’ve passed the exam, you can apply for your personal licence through your local council – follow our Next Steps for more guidance on this.
How long does a personal licence last?
Good news! In England and Wales, a personal licence doesn’t have an expiry date. It lasts indefinitely. In Scotland you have to complete refresher training and application every 5 years.
Who needs a personal licence?
All premises with a premises licence (under the Licensing Act 2003) need at least one personal licence holder, with the exception being a community premises, who have successfully applied to waive the DPS requirement.
What type of questions are in the exam?
The multiple-choice questions cover: Licensing Law, Premises Licence, Personal Licence, Unauthorised Licensable Activities, Alcohol, The Law, Disorderly Conduct and Drugs, Proof of Age Cards and The Four Licensing Objectives - the prevention of crime and disorder; public safety; the prevention of public nuisance; and the protection of children from harm.
