FAQs
How many first-aiders do I need?
The number of qualified first-aiders you need will depend on your workplace circumstances. Guidance from the Health and Safety Executive has a recommended number of qualified persons based on the degree of hazard and the number of employees.
For low-hazard environments, such as offices, shops or libraries, it is recommended that there should be at least one appointed person for fewer than 25 employees, at least one first-aider trained in EFAW for between 25 and 50 employees and at least one first-aider trained in FAW for every 100 employees.
For high-hazard environments, such as food processing, manufacturing or warehouses, it is recommended that there should be at least one appointed person for fewer than 5 employees, at least one first-aider trained in EFAW or FAW, depending on the type of injuries that might occur for between 5 and 50 employees and at least one first-aider trained in FAW for every 50 employees.
You should conduct a risk assessment to determine the level of risk and the number of required first-aiders.
What level is first aid at work?
This is our most comprehensive first aid course that covers more first aid information in more detail, reflective of the level of qualification gained at the end of the course.
The First Aid at Work Course is often referred to as a level 3 qualification because the length and complexity of the skills covered meet the requirements for a level 3 qualification on the Recognised Qualifications Framework (RQF).
How is first aid used in the workplace?
Everyone deserves to work in a safe environment; however, accidents and illness can happen regardless of safety measures and it’s important that emergency first aid can be delivered when needed.
In a work environment, first aid refers to the urgent, temporary care given to a person immediately after an accident or emergency occurs. It utilises emergency first aid measures to stabilise the employee's condition while waiting for a healthcare provider to arrive.
