We can take inspiration and personal development lessons from anywhere. Jamie Campbell tells us his top five Netflix watches for educating as well as entertaining.
We’ve all watched Tiger King, learned about Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bull’s Last Dance and probably even binge-watched all of Ozark, but do we ever look at Netflix as something that could help us with our own personal development?
It’s probably not the first thing that comes to mind, but with more of us not working for periods of time at the moment and a continued desire to learn, we’ve pulled together a list of some of the best to educate and entertain;
Brene Brown – The Call to Courage
The first time I watched this I wasn’t sure how to take Brene Brown, I thought it may be a little too evangelical for me to take anything in. I was wrong, it’s absolutely far more personal and meaningful than any of the other recommendations if you want to focus on growing self-awareness and facing your fears.
Ugly Delicious
Dave Chang is the founder of Momofuku restaurant group and is no stranger to Netflix with this show now in its second season. Watch this if you want to learn more about pushing boundaries with food and flavour and want some insight from one of the world’s most famous chefs. Don’t watch if hungry.
Chef’s Table BBQ
This series is not for the faint-hearted, beautifully shot and often extremely serious it isn’t light viewing. But the BBQ season is a little more light-hearted and the Sean Brock episode is one you should seek out, to hear about his extreme work ethic and the damage it caused. Watch this if you want to learn about pushing for perfection and understanding produce.
The Playbook – A Coaches Guide to Life
We don’t always have to learn from our own industry or peers, we can look further afield too. Leading a team, after all, is very similar whatever you do. Learning from sport can sometimes be cheesy (and there is some of that) but there are also some nuggets to take from it to. Watch this if you are interested in getting the most out of your team.
Anthony Bourdain – Parts Unknown
Many of us love to travel and right now, that’s not possible, so watching the late Anthony Bourdain delve into every type of culture around the world is our only option. There is a big back catalogue to get through with some amazing episodes from places you typically don’t get to see. Watch this if you are missing travelling and love to learn about culture alongside food and drink.
Whether you watch these as part of this lockdown or add them to your list for another time there is plenty to get you inspired.
